Abstract

1,247,294. Drying sheets. GREENBANK ENG. CO. Ltd. 20 July, 1970 [29 July, 1969], No. 37982/69. Heading F4G. A machine for drying sheets of paper (6), Fig. 3 (not shown), or lacquer boards comprises a conveyer 4 on which the sheet is placed located between upper 1 and lower 3 chambers. A fan 2 blows warm air through the sheet and conveyer 4 into the lower chamber 3 where the fan 2 produces a suction effect and draws the cooled air upwards, and while some air escapes through a duct 15 the remainder is recirculated through a heater 17 down into the chamber 3 and in addition fresh air is drawn into the fan 2 from the atmosphere. The suction effect in chamber 3 holds the paper sheet on to the conveyer 4 which is formed of perforated slats (5a), Fig. 3 (not shown). In the case of thin sheets of paper being dried the conveyer 4 is covered by an endless blanket 7 on which the paper sheets are laid. A second chamber 21 has cold air drawn into it by a fan 19 through a duct 23 to provide cooling for the paper sheet. An air jet 24 may be used to lift the leading edge of the paper sheet off the conveyer 4.
