Abstract

Pocket-wheel feeder.-The vanes of a pocketwheel 17 mounted in a housing 11 are arranged to engage a run of an endless belt 61 to seal the pockets as they convey cohesive material, such as dough, from a hopper 60 to an endless conveyer belt 77. The endless belt 61 is driven in unison with the pocket-wheel to prevent scrubbing action between material in the pockets and the belt. The pocket-wheel is formed with two or more circumferential rows of pockets and is rotatably mounted on a shaft formed with ducts 47, 48 connected to a suction source and a compressed air source, respectively. The base of each pocket is formed with apertures which communicate with the ducts 47, 48 when the pocket is adjacent the material inlet and outlet, respectively, and each pocket is provided with a porous liner, Fig. 5 (not shown). Endless conveyers.-The endless belt 77 is supported by transverse pairs of rollers 84 mounted in brackets 83 which are pivotally mounted on longitudinal shafts 82 interconnected by pinions 85 and worms 86 on a shaft 87. By rotating the shaft 87, the rollers may be tilted towards each other to trough the belt, Fig. 4, causing the pairs of material units 75 to unite into a single unit, or the rollers may be tilted away from each other, causing the material units to remain separate. In a modification, Fig. 12, the belt is supported by rollers 96, 98 and the separate material units are discharged from both sides of the belt by a plough 100. Alternatively, the pivotally connected axes of the rollers 96 may be adjusted to a troughing configuration and the end roller 98 replaced by a troughing roller, Fig. 11 (not shown), when the material units are to be combined into double units.
