Abstract

1,246,918. Hot top. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS A.B. 15 Oct., 1969 [16 Oct., 1968], No. 50754/69. Heading C3N. A hot top is made of a composition comprising a fine-grained refractory material, a binder and a synthetic refractory inorganic material, in fibrous form, wherein at least a substantial proportion of the said refractory fibrous material is in a crystalline state. The composition may additionally contain a finely-divided cellulosic fibrous material, e.g. paper pulp. The synthetic refractory inorganic fibrous material may be obtained by subjecting the corresponding synthetic refractory fibrous material in an amorphous state to a heat treatment at 750-1000‹ C. for 1-4 hours. Generally at least 50% by weight and preferably at least 75% by weight of the refractory fibrous material should be crystalline and may be derived from mineral wool (rock wool) or slag wool. The binder is preferably an organic material. A preferred composition comprises cellulosic fibrous material 2-15% by weight, crystalline synthetic refractory inorganic fibrous material, up to 10% by weight, binder 2-10% by weight, and finegrained refractory material remainder.
