Abstract

1,246,887. Treating polypivalolactone fibres. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 3 April, 1970 [9 May, 1969], No. 23760/69. Heading DIP. [Also in Division C3] Fibrous material of polypivalolactone is given improved resistance to soiling by treatment with a polymer containing at least one group having 2-40 polymerized propiolactone and/or alpha-alkyl substituted propiolactone units and at least one group having 2-125 polymerized oxyethylene and/or oxypropylene units, followed by heating above 140‹C. but below the m.p. of the fibres. The lactone units are suitably pivalolactone, a polymer containing such units and polyoxyethylene glycol blocks being used in the examples in an aqueous or alcoholic-aqueous dispersion. The treatment is washproof.
