Abstract

937,935. Paper. ROHM & HAAS CO. Jan. 13, 1960 [Jan. 23, 1959], No. 1270/60. Class 96. The deposition of pitch in the manufacture of paper from wood pulp is controlled by adding to the pulp before its deposition to form a sheet or web a polymer consisting predominently of N-vinyl-lactam units. The Specification lists suitable N-vinyl-lactams. The polymer may contain units of one or more and may contain also acrylic or methacrylic ester units. The polymer may be added to the pulp before digestion or at any subsequent stage up to immediately before the formation of sheet or web.
