124,685. Bloodgood, J. H. Nov. 4, 1918. Planing and moulding. - In hand planes provided with power-operated tools, the front section 8 of the frame is detachable from the rear section 7 to enable the tool to be used more effectively in corners of structures, and the tool shaft 22 is carried in the frame 15 pivoted at 19 to the main frame and adjustable by means of a screw 29 and a link 31 to regulate the protrusion of the cutter 1 beyond the sole-plate 5 and hence the depth of cut. The screw 29 is adapted to be used as a handle for manipulating the plane when the front section 8 and its handle 11 are removed. Either a planing-tool or a wobble saw for grooving may be secured to the cutter shaft. In the latter case, the saw is clamped between splines 26 by nuts 23. The shaft is carried in bearings 20 fitted with tubular bushings 37 which are cut out at 38 to receive packing to retain lubricant supplied by oil-cups 36 and ducts 34. The shaft is reversible in the bearings so that the connexion 33 for the flexible power shaft can be arranged at either side of the plane.
