Abstract
1,246,096. Moulding footwear. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 29 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54530/67. Heading B5A. An apparatus for moulding a shoe bottom on to a lasted upper comprises a multi-part injection mould 16, 18, a last L and a head 30 movable towards and away from the mould and carrying a clamping mechanism having two clamping devices 52 and 92 which co-operate respectively with the last and with the shoe upper. The device 92 comprises a substantially air-tight sheath 102 containing particulate material. When the clamping mechanism has been moved from a position remote from the mould to a position in which the clamping devices 52, 92 engage the last and shoe, its hydraulic-pneumatic control circuit is switched to a condition in which the resistance to relative movement between the clamping device 52 and the head 30 is increased and the air pressure supplied to the sheath 102 of clamping device 92 is reduced so that it acts as a solid body.
