Abstract

1,245,834. Roadway marker. L. EIGENMANN. 3 Sept., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 41743/68. Heading E1G. [Also in Division G2] A tape for superimposing on and securing to a roadway; e.g. to define a traffic lane, comprises a base strip 15 and secured therein longitudinally spaced elements 14 the combined surface area of which is only a minor portion of the area of the upper surface of the strip, the elements comprising a binder material in which is distributed transparent spheroidal bodies having a greater reflex-reflecting property than the upper surface of the strip. Typically the elements protrude from the strip and the side faces of the elements are provided with transparent glass spheroids of diameters less than 300Á. The base strip and the binder of the elements 14 may be formed from natural or synthetic rubber compositions containing a white pigment or aluminium flake. The binder for the elements 14 may also be a cross-linking polyester resin or chlorosulphonated polyethylene. The elements 14 incorporating the glass microspheres are punched out of a strip including a high proportion of such microspheres, the elements being partially embedded in the base strip to which they are adhered with natural or synthetic rubber, vinyl chloride-acetate copolymer or polyester resin adhesives. The tape may be secured to an asphalt road surface by adhesives based on one or more of natural and synthetic rubbers, polyester resin, alkyd resins or vinyl chloride-acetate copolymers.
