1,245,770. Preparing cops. FR. METTLERS SOHNE MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. 4 Nov., 1968 [9 Nov., 1967], No. 52126/68. Heading D1J. A device for automatically preparing caps for delivery to an automatic spooler has two rollers 3, driven in the same direction by a motor 6, which support between them successive cops 1 so that the latter are rotated in a yarn unwinding direction. A suction duct 22 with its duct inlet 23 positioned between rollers 3 loosens the yarn end 16a from rear end 18 of cop former 17 and so the underwinding 19 is unwound. Below cop head 20 a phototransducer 26 is mounted on duct side wall 24 and light shines on it from a lamp 28 on side wall 27 through slots in these walls. The unwound yarn 19' is held in a confined area by means of yarn catcher 24. This hanging yarn cuts off the light from lamp 28 to transducer 26 which causes the contacts 76 of a relay 75 to close thus energising a cam motor 60 with a shaft 59. Cam 56 on shaft 59 operates switch 48 which operates electromagnet 32 which causes knife 31 to move towards stationary knife 29 to cut off the unwound yarn underwinding 19'. Cam 57 operates switch 49 to first energise electromagnet 41 of pusher 40 which moves cop 1 backwards a distance equal to a part of the length of cop-former head 20 on rollers 3; and then through pole changer winding 67 to cause the rollers 3 to change their direction of rotation so that yarn end 16b is wound about head 20. Cam 58 operates switch 50 for turning on motor 8 which causes arm 9 to turn from its rest position (fig. 1), through one revolution to knock off cop 1 from rollers 3 onto an outlet shute 10. Switch 50 also energises electromagnet 14 which causes stop 11 to move to 11' position so that one cop at a time rolls down shute 2 onto rollers 3.
