Abstract

1,245,690. Particle analysis. COULTER ELECTRONICS . Ltd. 16 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968 (2)], No. 28341/69. Headings G4A and G4D. Statistical correction of count in particle analysis is made of augmenting the count artificially at the attainment of certain values. In apparatus of the Coulter type in which particles passing through an aperture 5 vary the resistance between electrodes 6, 7, two particles will sometimes be registered as one. For a measured volume of fluid the necessary correction is proportional to the square of the count. Each thousandth count pulse energizes a correction circuit 35 so as to augment the count by an amount which increases according to the range which the counter 16-21 has attained. At the end of a test the counter is interrogated by stage 23 and the result is printed at 32.
