Abstract

1,244,816. Refractory curtains. NORTON CO. 13 April, 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 17427/70. Heading F4B. A flexible refractory curtain comprises a horizontal supporting means 10, secondary flexible supporting means appended therefrom and comprised of vertical flexible steel cables 12 and horizontal metal wire 14 to which are attached refractory segments 16 having at least one convex side. The horizontal and vertical supports 14, 12, respectively, are formed of flexible cable, the strands of which are continuous filaments of a high-temperature resistant material such as glass, ceramic, carbon or metal wire. The attached refractory segments are made of such refractory materials as silicon carbide, aluminium oxide, silica, silicon oxynitride, zirconium oxide, or boron carbide. Depending upon the configuration of the refractory segments, that is the number and shape of the convex sides, the curtain can be made flexible in from 1 to 4 directions.
