Abstract
1,244,802. Elements for thin layer chromatography. E. RADMACHER [trading as MACHEREY, NAGEL & CO.] 19 Feb., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968], No. 9036/69. Heading B1X. Thin layer chromatography elements are produced by forming a suspension of a finely divided sorbent in a liquid, e.g. water, adding without coagulation a dispersion of a crosslinkable synthetic resin or a composition thereof, forming an element, e.g. by applying the suspension to a base, and finally drying the element and curing it so as to promote crosslinking. The sorbents employed include silica gel, kieselguhr, alumina, magnesium silicate, calcium phosphate, cellulose and derivatives thereoff polyamides, polycarbonates and natural and synthetic ion exchangers. Any resin which when cross-linked is chemically inert and insoluble in organic solvents may be employed, but a polyacrylate is preferred, particularly copolymers of acrylates and/or methacrylates with acrylamides and/or methacrylamides, or the N-methylol derivatives thereof. Base support materials to which the dispersion is applied include glass, plastics and metal plates and foils and metallised or plastics-lined paper.
