Abstract

[Also in Division A4] A divider for a shelf 10 or drawer with a guide slot 12 comprises a rigid, hollow divider plate 11 in which a bolt 20 is vertically slidable, the bolt having a head 24 underlying the slot 12, and a locking mechanism to displace the bolt 20 upwardly with a camming action to clamp the head 24 against the edge or edges 17 of the slot 12. As shown, the locking means comprises a wedge 26 which is displaceable by a rod 25, through apertures 28 in flanges of the bolt 20 so that its inclined upper surface 27 has a camming engagement with the upper edges of the aperture 28. An operating handle 30 may be secured to the rod 25 forwardly of the front edge of the shelf. Alternatively, when the divider is fitted in a drawer, the rod 25 is guided and wholly contained within the plate 11 and is pivotally connected to the lower end of a rocking lever fitted at its upper end with an operating handle disposed above the top edge of the plate 11. In another embodiment (Fig. 2) the operating rod (40) has a bent portion (41) which performs the camming function of the wedge 26 and the head (24<SP>1</SP>) is dovetail shaped for engagement with downwardly divergent side flanges (16<SP>1</SP>) of the slot (12<SP>1</SP>). In a modification (Fig. 3) the bolt (20<SP>11</SP>) comprises a strip with a single aperture (28<SP>11</SP>) to receive the camming section (41) of a rod (40). In a further embodiment (Figs. 4, 5) displacement of the bolt 20 is effected by a cam (45) mounted eccentrically on a rotatable operating shaft (46) and engaged between brackets (51) extending between flanges (48) of a U-section bolt 20.
