Abstract

1,244,511. Selective printing. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 8 Jan., 1969, No. 1233/69. Heading B6F. [Also in Divisions G4-G6] A magnetic recording head for electrographic printing and/or display apparatus, comprises a plurality of rod-like magnetic cores 36 and associated windings 37 fixed 45 to respective printed circuit boards 1, 44 and encapsulated in a support body 48 with one end of the cores and the windings flush with a recording surface of the body. As shown, iron, steel or radiometal wire cores 36 are wound and glued to edges 38 or in slots (43, Fig. 3B, not shown) in the boards and the winding ends 40, 41 glued to the face 1 and terminated at areas 7, 8 (Fig. 1) of copper circuits 5, 6 connected 11, 12 to areas 9, 10 to which the signal leads are connected. Successive boards use different areas 7-10 to allow close packing, the boards being spaced by printed areas 3, 4 containing alignment holes 2. The assembly is located adjacent a support 46 slotted at 51 and tapped at 52, 53. A screw 55 is located in hole 53, and possibly another in hole 52, and the whole encapsulated 48 so that the screw and resin which flows into hole 52 secure the parts together. A nut 56 is screwed on to screw 53 and into a third tapped hole 54 to allow differential adjustment of the head adjacent a drum or belt for electrographic printing &c. The body may contain amorphous silica, or the operating surface provided with a plastics film or silicon nitride deposit to reduce wear. Alternatively, air holes drilled in the body may be used to provide an air bearing.
