Abstract
1,244,372. Electrophotographic element. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 26 Aug., 1968 [26 Aug., 1967], No. 40792/68. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic element comprises at least two photo-conductive layers, each pair of layers having an interposed insulating or slightly photo-conductive layer wherein one of the photo-conductive layers is more sensitive than or has a different spectral sensitivity to the other photo-conductive layer and wherein the other photo-conductive layer and the interposed layer are transparent to the actinic light for the one photo-conductive layer. A mixture of CdS, CdCO 3 , and CdI 2 in ethanol is made, left to stand for 24 hours, evaporated to dryness and fired at 200‹ C. The fired material is mixed with an acrylic resin and Malachite Green in ethanol and allowed to stand overnight. An aluminium plate 8 is coated 9 with the dye sensitized material, overlaid with an acrylic resin 10 and then overcoated with the unsensitized material 11. The plate is subsequently baked at 150‹ C. In another embodiment, the photo-conductive material is prepared as above, but the first stage omits the firing step whilst the second stage utilizes Brilliant Green as the sensitizing dyestuff In another embodiment CdCO 3 is replaced by SiO 2 . A structure having three photoconductive layers is described (Fig. 8, not shown). A self-supporting element may be formed.
