Abstract

1,244,371. Projection printing apparatus; prisms. AGFA-GEVAERT A. G. Aug. 23, 1968 [Aug.24, 1967], No. 40464/68. Headings G2A and G2J. In a projection printer having continuous movement of the original 2 and the copy sheet 8, imaging being effected by stationary lenses 5, 6, there is provided an Abbe prism 7 arranged for rotation through 90 degrees about the optical axis so as to allow of imaging an original moving in the same direction as, or in the opposite direction to, the copy sheet. The original is placed on a transparent carriage 1 and successive strips are illuminated by stationary fluorescent lamps 3, 4 the carriage moving from right to left as shown. When all of the original has been scanned, the carriage will be to the left of the lamps. The prism 7 is rotated through 90 degrees anticlockwise (as seen) and the carriage moved from left to right, i.e. in the same direction as the sheet 8, movement of the prism causing the projected image to be rotated through 180 degrees. Thus the return motion of the carriage is utilized in making a further copy. The prism 7 maybe replaced by a K÷nig prism, a roof shaped prism, by the prisms according to Dove, Amici, Schmidt, Pechan or Porro, or by two cylindrical lenses which form image rotation means occasionally used in astronomical telescopes.
