Abstract

1,244,200. Bleaching textiles. COLGATEPALMOLIVE CO. 22 Oct., 1968 [24 Oct., 1967], No. 50014/68. Heading DIP. [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] Fabrics are treated with a composition comprising a "water soluble peroxide bleaching agent" (defined as a bleaching agent which yields hydrogen peroxide on dissolution in water) and a water-soluble mono-imide or polyimide containing at least one N-bonded substituent of the formula -COOR wherein R represents alkyl or aryl. Exemplified "peroxides" are sodium percarbonate, sodium perborate and sodium persidicate. The imides may be cyclic or acyclic in nature and preferred imides include N-methoxycarbonyl saccharin, N-methoxycarbonyl phthalimide, N-ethoxycarbonyl phthalimide, N-methoxycarbonyl 5,5- dimethylhydantoin, N-methoxycarbonyl succinimide, N-phenoxycarbonyl succinimide, N, N-di(methoxycarbonyl)-hydantoin, 1,3-di-(N- methoxycarbonyl)-5,5-dimethyl hydantoin. In one embodiment the imide activator may be coated with a soluble material such as a polymeric material. Optional ingredients include anionic, cationic, nonionic, amphoteric surfactants and alkaline detergency builders.
