1,243,857. Plant growth regulants containing carbamoylphosphonates, E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 19 May, 1969 [24 May, 1968; 3 March, 1969; 1 April, 1969], No. 26590/69. Heading C1B. [Also in Division C2] Compounds of the formula where R 1 is a C 1 -C 8 alkyl group, a chloro- or bromo-alkyl group contain 1-8 C atoms and 1-3 of the halogen atoms, a C 3 -C 10 -alkoxyalkyl group, or C 2 -C 8 alkenyl group, a C 3 -C 4 alkynyl group, phenyl or benzyl; R 2 and R 3 may be H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 2 -C 4 hydroxy alkyl, C 3 -C 4 alkenyl, C 3 -C 4 alkylenyl or an amino radical in which R 4 and R 5 may be H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, or R 2 and R 3 together form a divalent radical -(CH 2 ) 2 -O-(CH 2 ) 2 - or (CH 2 ) n , where n is 4, 5 or 6; M is H, Na, Li, Ti, Ca, Mg, Zn, Mn, or Ba or where R 6 , R 7 or R 8 may be H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 2 -C 4 hydroxyplkyl, C 3-4 alkyl or C 3-4 alkynyl or together form -(CH 2 ) 2 -O (CH 2 ) 2 cr -(CH 2 ) n - and R 9 is H, C 1 -C 12 alkyl, C 3- C 4 alkenyl, C 3 -C 4 alkynyl or a benzyl group or are growth regulants for plants, and in particular may be used for retarding the growth of woody plants and for increasing the yield of sugarcontaining crops. Preferred additions are maleic hydrazide and N-dimethyl-aminosuccinic acid.
