Abstract
1,243,843. Photographic flash-cube. apparatus. GTE SYLVANIA Inc. Aug.23, 1968 [Aug.23, 1967], No.40503/68. Heading G2A. A photographic camera has a mechanism which is designed to fire a percussive type flash-lamp, forming part of a flash-cube, in synchronism with the uncovering of a film exposure aperture. If a flash-cube is to be used, a button 142 on the camera front is depressed so as to displace a locking finger (30) Fig. 9 (not shown) to allow insertion of a flash-cube into a socket 28, release of the button causing the finger (30) to lock into a groove (5) of a lamp (3). The film is then advanced, actuation of the film advancing lever also cocking the shutter 52, rotating the socket 28 through a link and cam, and cocking a flash-lamp firing hammer 62 by means of rotation of a shaft connected to the socket 28. The linkage system is arranged by means of a two piece sleeve (100) Fig.4 (not shown), to allow of further actuation of the film advancing lever without disturbing the rotated flash-cube and the cocked hammer. The lower component (102) of the sleeve (100) rests on a leaf-spring (104) which normally biases the two sleeve pieces into contact. As the hammer 62 approaches its cocked position, it displaces a pin 90 to the lower end of a slot 88, and this rotates a lever (130) so that a tab (134) thereof depresses the leaf-spring (104) thereby disengaging the components (102), (98). To take a picture, the operator depresses a shutter release plate 40 thereby rotating an arm 42 to free a detent 46 from a finger 48 of the shutter striking plate. However, this plate does not, as yet, trip the shutter as it still held by a detent 82 of a shutter tripping lever 78. Rotation of the arm 42 displaces a hammer latch 70 thereby releasing the hammer 62 which advances a firing pin (38) into engagement with the primer cup (1) of the lamp (3). As the hammer approaches the end of its stroke, the detent 82 is displaced freeing the finger 48 and allowing the shutter striking plate to trip the shutter.
