Abstract

1,243,730. Brakes. MARLAND ONE-WAY CLUTCH CO. Inc. 17 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968; 23 May, 1969], No. 30686/69. Heading F2E. A device for preventing reverse rotation of a shaft 12 which is also subject to misalignment, comprises a flexible coupling 16 connected to a fixed plate 10 and to a non-return ratchet device 14 which is connected to the shaft. The flexible coupling consists of tooth-rings 28, 40 engaging corresponding recesses 52, 54 in a sleeve assembly 42 carried on bearing button 62. The one-way ratchet comprises rollers 72 riding between inner and outer races 70, 68 of which this later rotates with the shaft 12. The inner race has ramp-steps to cause wedging of the rollers on reverse movement, springs 120 biasing a roller-cage into this wedging position. Lubricant is supplied to both these units from tank 170 via pipes 174, 176, 178, 180, 184 and 206, 204, 208. In a modification (Figs. 6-9, not shown) the ratchet may be inverted to work in the opposite direction and a drive shaft (266) passes through the flexible coupling.
