Abstract
1,243,502. Photo-cells. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO. Ltd. 30 April, 1954, No. 12688/54. Heading H1K. A photo-electric cell similar to that described in Specification 1,243,501 is combined with a mass 13 of cold-setting insulating compound to enclose a chamber 11 between the insulating compound and the outer surface of the portion 3 of the cell envelope on the inner surface of which the photo-electric material 4 is provided, the chamber being open by way of a plurality of ducts 12 provided through the insulating compound. To form the chamber 11 the cell is surrounded by a conductive sheath 9 to which one electrode 6 may be connected, and inverted; common salt is poured into the re-entrant part 2, greased rods to form the ducts 12 are inserted, and then the insulating compound is poured in. The free-running salt is removed through the ducts 12, and the chamber 11 used to direct cold gas on the part 3 of the cell carrying the photoelectric material. The cell is restrained from movement by a portion 10 of the sheath 9, as described in Specification 820,320.
