Abstract

1,243,452. Riding saddle. W. J. K. STUBBEN and A. STUBBEN [trading as JOH'S STUBBEN O.H.G.]. 13 March, 1969 [13 March, 1968; 7 Aug, 1968], No. 13246/69. Heading A1M. [Also in Division E2] A riding saddle having two girth straps adjustable by the rider from the saddle comprises a saddle tree 11 with bars 12 and webs 13, and four girth buckles 16, 19 are attached midway along the bars 12 and on the forward (i.e. nearest the horse's head) web 13 or downward extension thereof. Saddle bags 22 extend just below level of the buckles 16 and cover a saddle pad 24 which has a shaped knee roll 25, the web girth straps 17 going under the pad through holes 26a, 26b, the bar girth strap 18 going over it. Straps 17, 18 meet under the horse's belly where a felt pad may be provided. Buckles 16, 19 clamp the girth straps 17, 18 in any position since straps 17, 18, after going round pivoted roller 38 are clamped between the pressure plate 39 and the eccentric portion of a spring-loaded lever actuated bar 45. Frame 31 has a slotted bore for attaching to a plate 36 on the tree 11 having a suspension pin 34 and toggle 35. In a further embodiment the forward buckles 16 may be dispensed with and the straps 17 attached by rivets or screws.
