An external rear-view mirror assembly mounted on a vehicle comprises a U-shaped frame 1 and a support arm 3, the former being pivotally mounted on the vehicle 7 by ball and socket joints 9 at the free ends 4 of the arms of the frame and having a mirror mounted on the base member thereof, and the support arm having two parts 17, 19 which are pivotally connected at one end, one to the frame and one to the vehicle body, their other ends being pivotally interconnected by a friction connection 25, a stop 35 being associated with the connection to prevent the two parts of the arm pivoting relatively to each other beyond the extended position shown in Fig. 1. The friction connection includes a waved washer and under impact yields, allowing the support arm and frame to fold towards the rear of the vehicle.
