Abstract
1,243,002. Chromic oxide. ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd. 1 Aug., 1968 [1 Aug., 1967], No. 35214/67. Heading C1A. [Also in Division B2] Chromic oxide containing chromic acid is obtained in dry granular form from a mixture of finely-divided chromic oxide in aqueous chromic acid, preferably by spray-drying the mixture in slurry form or by drying in conjunction with mechanical granulation. The dried granules are thereafter heated to convert more than 50% by weight of the chromic acid content to chromic oxide to provide granular chromic oxide suitable for use in coating substrates by flame or plasma arc spraying. Preferably, the initial slurry contains 0À5 to 7% of chromic acid (expressed as Cr0 3 ) based on the weight of chromic oxide and 30-70% of water and the dried granules are preferaby heated at 300-600 C. for at least 30 minutes.
