[Also in Division B2] In a continuous sheet casting process a resin 'is cast, gelled and cured on an endless belt 1, Fig. 2, having a multiplicity o'f minute mould cavities, the cured sheet then being stripped from the belt. 'The mould filling zone comprises a container 10 within which are located deaerating and pressure rollers 4, 5, 6 which apply a liquid or viscous resin e.g. a vinyl plastisol, to a level determined by the adjustable container end wall 12. A coating of similar or different resin 20 may be applied by a doctor blade upstream of a heating zone'22 in which the resin is gelled. A backing layer e.g. a vinyl or polyurethane foam or fabric which may be formed in situ or, as shown, preformed is then applied upstream of a curing :zone 30 downstream of which is a cooling zone 40. The sheet is weund on a roll 51. The P.V.C. plastisol may contain-any haloethylene polymer composed predominantly of a polymerized haloethylene having from one or two halogen atoms selected from the group consisting of chlorine, bromine and fluorine atoms attached to only one of the carbon atoms, such as homopolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide, vinyl fluoride, vinylidene bromide and vinylidene fluoride and interpolymers or copolymers of two or more of these monomers. Copolymers or interpolymers made from monomeric mixtures containing at least one haloethylene monomer together with a lesser amount of one or more copolymerizable monoolefinic monomers, examples of which are given, may be used. The polymer is blended with a plasticizer, stabilizer, filler, -extender, pigment, lubricant and dye. Other thermoplastic or thermosetting resin may be used.
