Abstract

[Also in Division H5] Thermoplastic sheeting 13 is heated prior to thermoforming by conduction and radiation from one or more transport belts 11, 12, of high dissipation factor which are heated by an RF field on passage between or over dielectric heating electrodes. The process is mainly for heating thermoplastic sheeting of low dissipation factor, but mention is made of sheeting 13 of high dissipation factor being provided with the belts 11, 12, which then minimize or elimin. ate heat losses from sheeting 13 by conduction or radiation. The belt or belts have release properties in respect of the thermoplastic material. The sheeting may follow a sinuous path, Fig. 2 (not shown), or a curved path Fig. 3 (not shown) through the apparatus. Specification 1,238,881 is referred to.
