Abstract

1,241,525. Sealing glass parts. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 Feb., 1970 [8 Feb., 1969], No. 5513/70. Heading C1M. Glass parts (e.g. 1 and 2) are interconnected by edge-sealing, the edges being pre-heated and brought into contact, and sealed by passing electric current through the said edges, and the current being supplied to supply areas on the outside surfaces of the glass parts through an electric arc 12 struck between inert gas streams (supplied from nozzles 5) which impinge on the glass parts. The pre-heating may be to about 600‹ C., and the inert gas may be preionized by an auxiliary discharge. Parts 1 and 2 may be mounted so that they may be rotated relative to each other.
