Abstract

1,240,962. Cutting apparatus. HENRY SIMON Ltd. 9 April, 1970 [16 April, 1969], No. 16869/70. Heading B4B. [Also in Division F2] A rotary anvil for use in rotary die cutting of paper board comprises an annular base 22 having at least one annular groove 27 of T- cross-section and a cover 28 of resilient flexible material mounted for free annular movement on the base and having at least one rib 34 engaged in the groove and being of a crosssection which resists radial movement outwardly of the cover from the base yet permits mounting of the cover on and its removal from the base without removing the anvil from its support. The cover, which may be of rubber or synthetic; plastics material, is formed from two strips secured at their ends by means of interengaging lugs 42, 44. The ribs 34 have portions 36 adapted to contact the bottom of the grooves and portions 38 formed with a T-section and provided with a slit 40 thereby allowing assembly of the ribs into the grooves. In a modification, the interconnecting lugs 52, 54, Fig. 13 have straight sides and ends so that these may be adjusted by cutting in order to accommodate variations in the length of the cover. In a further modification, a flexible steel plate (56, 58), Fig. 15 (not shown), may be bonded to the cover in order to prevent stretching.
