Abstract
1,240,938. Automatic speed control. SONY CORP. March 13, 1969 [March 13, 1968; March 14, 1968], No.13323/69. Heading G3R. A D.C. motor 5 drives a tachogenerator 13, the output of which is used to regulate the speed of the motor, and a pulse generator 15, whose output is indicative of the phase of motor shaft and is phase compared with a reference signal S2 to provide a phase error signal which is then used to modify the speed regulator so as to maintain synchronism between the motor shaft and the reference signal S2. The tachogenerator 13 is in the form of a toothed magnetic wheel and pick-up Fig. 1 (not shown) and delivers a signal whose frequency depends on the speed of the motor. This signal is applied to a limiter 25 and then to a demodulator 26 in the form of a low-pass filter; this delivers an A. C. signal S 1 whose amplitude varies with the speed. The signal S 1 is clamped by a diode 28 to a set D.C. level V 0 and applied to a circuit 21 which passes only that part of the signal above a fixed voltage level V. The resultant signal is amplifed and applied to the motor 5. If the motor speed rises the amplitude of signal S 1 <SP>11</SP> falls and less energy is supplied to the motor. The pulse generator is in the form of a magnet rotating with the motor shaft to give a pulse once per revolution in the pick-up 15. The reference pulses S2 are integrated in a Miller circuit 31 to provide a repetitive ramp waveform which is applied to a gate 38 controlled by the pulses S5 from generator 15. The gate 38 samples the ramp waveform and thus delivers to a capacitor 39 a signal whose amplitude varies with the phase error. This is filtered and used to adjust the clamping level V 0 of diode 28. If phase error increases V 0 <SP>1</SP> increases and more energy is supplied to the motor 5. In an alternative embodiment Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the speed signal, squared by a bi-stable circuit, is applied to a monostable circuit, the input and output of which are compared in an AND gate to give a pulse signal whose pulse with varies with the speed error. The phase error signal S 6 is used to vary the time constant of the monostable so that the pulse width also depends on phase error. The reference signal S 2 may be the vertical synchronizing pulses of a video signal to be recorded on an oblique scan tape recorder driven by the D.C. motor 5.
