Abstract

1,240,664. Sheet material. DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd. 18 April, 1969 [20 April, 1968], No. 18767/68. Addition to 1,177,483. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B2] A flexible sheet material comprises an outer compressed sheet of reticulated or reticular polyurethane foam based on an aliphatic polyisocyanate adhered to a compressed sheet of reticulated or reticular polyurethane based on an aromatic polyisocyanate. Fibres of polyester, polyamide, cotton, wool and rayon may be distributed within at least one of the foams. A fibrous sheet may be adhered to the aromatic polyurethane foam. The sheet material may be coated with a polymeric composition (see Division B2) and the coating embossed. The sheet may be impregnated with a binder. The sheet may be made by placing a non-compressed aliphatic foam in contact with a sheet of aromatic foam which has been compressed at a temperature not less than the Vicat softening point of the solid cellular state, e.g. 150-250. This assembly is compressed at a temperature below the melting point of the aliphatic foam. The compression of the aromatic foam and/or the assembly may be carried out between platens at different temperatures. The foams may also be united by adhesive or flamebonding. Suitable aliphatic polyisocyanates are cyclo-hexamethylene, dicyclohexylmethane or hexamethylene diisocyanate. The aromatic polyisocyanate maybe 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate, 2,6-tolylene diisocyanate or a mixture thereof.
