A watch case has at least one visible part made of a substantially non-defaceable material, the material being a sintered alumina ceramic. The case part which may comprise the rim, the rim and the case band or the bottom and the case band is moulded and then polished, engraved, &c. The ceramic may be coloured with metal oxides.
