A high pressure rubber hose comprises at least two helically-wound metal wire layers, the metal wires of each layer each having a crosssection defined by a pair of opposed flat, parallel sides and a pair of semicircular sides. The ratio of the dimensions d to D is in the range of 1: 2 to 1: 5.
