Abstract
1,239,441. Stacking apparatus/endless conveyers for ingots. E. & J. ENG. CO. Ltd. 24 July, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 19948/68. Headings B8A and B8C. In a stacking apparatus comprising vertically and horizontally movable grabs 24, 25 which lift ingots 3 off a first conveyer 5 and stack them on a second conveyer 28, the discharge end of the first conveyer 5 reciprocates vertically in unison with the grabs 24, 25. The grabs are carried by a trolley 19 which is reciprocated along a gantry 17 by hydraulic cylinders 20, 21, 22, the gantry being carried by side members 12 slidably supported by a stand 14 and raised by an hydraulic cylinder 16. The first conveyer 5 comprises an endless wire mesh belt trained around a driven roller 6 and an idler roller 7 (Fig. 6) and supported on a pivotally supported frame 8 having a pivoted discharge end section 10 connected to the side members 12 of the gantry. The end of the support frame 8 remote from the grabs 24, 25 has a lug 30 with a projecting pin 33 pivoted in a resilient bush 33 carried by a link 35 pivoted to a shaft 31 through a further resilient bush 32. Alternatively (Fig. 5, not shown) the lug 31 is pivoted directly to the shaft 31 through the bush 32. In operation, ingots 3 abut on end stop 26 on the first conveyer 5 and are lifted two at a time and rotated to form stacks of alternate layers as shown in Fig. 1.
