Abstract
1,239,397. Hoses. UNIROYAL Ltd. 20 Nov., 1968 [28 Nov., 1967], No. 53981/67. Heading F2P. A buoyant hose for conveying fluid, e.g. oil, across water comprises a plurality of inner plies, the innermost 1 being of rubber, a first strip 12 of rubber helically wound over said plies with spaces between adjacent turns, a second strip 13 of cellular material helically wound over said plies into the spaces between the turns of the first strip, and a plurality of outer plies surrounding the first and second strip, the outermost ply being of rubber. The innermost ply 1 is surrounded by a breaker layer 2 of rubber-impregnated fabric and a reinforcement layer 3 of rubber-coated glass fibre or wire cord wound helically around the layer 2. A further rubber layer 4, a breaker layer 5 and a rubber layer 6 are next provided. Wound rubber-filler strip 7 and metal or resin-bonded glass fibre reinforcement 8 are provided around layer 6 with further rubber and breaker plies 9, 10 and 11 interposed the reinforcement and strips 12 and 13. The strip may be expanded polyurethane or polyvinyl resin. Outer plies formed of rubber layers 14, 16 and 18 and breaker layers 15 and 17 complete the structure. Nipples and flanges of resin-bonded glass fibre (not shown) are built into the hose ends.
