Abstract
1239299 Reverse osmosis apparatus AQUA-CHEM Inc 22 Oct 1968 [25 Oct 1967] 50187/68 Headings F2G G9H G9J and G9L An apparatus for removing dissolved solids from a liquid, e.g. for desalination of sea water, by reverse osmosis has a tubular film of semipermeable membrane material 20, a rigid support tube 16 and adjacent the outer-most end of the bore 12 and a header 10 an annular groove 28 which receives a gasket 30 having at least a portion of diameter greater than that of the membrane structure. In order to direct the liquid to be purified to the interior of the tubular film 20, an end cap 32 having a channel 34 is tightly clamped by any suitable means to the header 10. Purified liquid leaves by apertures 26. Surrounding the tubular film 20 is a semi-rigid, porous tube 22 which has its ends coated with a liquid impervious material 24 which serves to rigidify the same for sealing purposes. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), apertures 26 are omitted and purified liquid diffuses through porous semi-rigid tube 22 to an annular collecting space (44) at the upper end of tube 16 and thence to outlet 72.
