Abstract
1,239,280. Cardiac pacer. CORDIS CORP. 15 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 54254/68. Heading A5R. A cardiac pacer 10 having an output connector 12, a ventricular lead 24 with a connector 23 adapted to mate with the connector 12 are connected by a resistive element 16 having a first connector 18 connected to the connector 12 and a second connector 20 connected to the ventricular lead. The resistance of element 16 is sufficient to reduce the output signal of the pacer to between 1/5 and 1/10 of its maximum valve. The device is intended to assist in correct placing of a pervenously introduced electrode. By implanting the electrode in a position such that the reduced signal causes an adequate cardiac response, it is ensured that after growth of scar tissue which reduces the effectiveness of a signal by up to three to five fold removal of the resistive element will result in a signal which will produce the required response.
