Abstract
1,239,192. Vacuum pumps. PERKINELMER CORP. Jan. 10, 1969 [Jan. 24, 1968], No.1577/69. Heading F1N. A cryosorption pump, for emersion in a bath of liquid nitrogen, comprises a sheet metal parallelepiped housing 32-39 having an inlet 50 for evacuated gas to pass into hollow elongated perforated bodies 42 disposed within the housing, the space between the bodies 42 and the housing being filled with molecular seive material 47 into which extends heat conducting strips 46 brazed to the inside of the housing. Each body 42 has a flange by which it is secured to a stiffener 44 spot welded to the housing sides 36, 38. The molecular seive material is preferably crystalline calcium aluminosilicate. Tubes 64, 66 extending from the top to the bottom of the housing receive electrical heaters 60, 62 for purging the seive material of absorbed and adsorbed gases. A chamber may be evacuated by a plurality of similar pumps (17, 18, 19), Fig. 1 (not shown) used in succession.
