Abstract
1,239,075. Laminates. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. 11 July, 1968 [12 July, 1967], No. 33170/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions C4 and G2] A laminated structure consists of a 0À3 mm. layer 5 of polyvinyl butyral containing a spiropyran photochromic substance at a molecular concentration of 10<SP>-6</SP> mol/sq. cm. of surface area between a 1 mm. glass sheet 6 and an 0À5 mm. optical filter 7. A second filter 8 1 mm. thick is laminated to filler 7 by a 0À3 mm. polyvinylbutyral layer 9. The spiro-pyran substance comprises polystyrene dissolved in toluene to form a 20% by wt. solution to which is added 1- phenyl - 3 - 3 - dimethyl - indolino - 2 - spiro- 2<SP>1</SP> - 6<SP>1</SP> - nitro - 8<SP>1</SP> - methoxy benzo (1,2 - b) pyran in a concentration of 10<SP>-3</SP> mol/litre. An alternative structure comprises a 0À3 mm. layer 10 of polyvinyl butyral containing 1,3,3-trimethyl - 5 - chloro - indolino - 2 - spiro - 2<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>1</SP>- nitro-81-methoxy benzo (b) pyran at a molecular concentration of 2À10<SP>-7</SP> mol/sq. cm. between a 1À1 mm. glass sheet 11 and a 1 mm. glass filter 12. Other examples are given.
