Abstract
1,238,691. Washing and bleaching textiles. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 29 May, 1968 [1 June, 1967], No. 25770/68. Heading D1P. [Also in Division C5] Fabrics of cotton or linen or cotton polyester blends are washed or laundered in water containing a detergent composition (A) to which is added a bleach supplying hypochlorous ion, e.g. sodium hypochlorite solution, heterocyclic N-chloroimides, e.g. sodium dichloroisocyanurate, other imides, e.g. N-chlorosuccinimide and 1,2-dichloro 5,5-dimethyl hydantoin, trichloromelamine and N,N-dichlorobenzolurea. The detergent composition (A) comprises at least one anionic, cation and non-ionic organic detergent, a builder salt and from 1/4 to 1% of an alkali metal bromide, e.g. sodium bromide. The bromide gives a good bleaching and sanitizing effect without substantial undesirable residual odour on the washed clothes or damage thereto.
