Abstract
1,238,502. Coating. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 21 March, 1968 [21 March 1967], No. 59849/70. Divided out of 1,238,501. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3 and D2] Aromatic linear polyamides contaminated by halide ion (e.g. as the result of being prepared from the acid halide) are intimately associated with 0.1 to 15 wt% of a degradation inhibitor which is a manganese, zinc or bismuth oxide, a manganese, zinc, bismuth or aluminium hydroxide, an aluminium hydrated oxide; manganese or zinc carbonate or bismuth sub-carbonate to reduce degradation when contacted with copper or iron. The intimate association may be achieved by incorporating the inhibitor in the polymer, e.g. with all or part (e.g. the fibrids) of a papermaking stock, or by coating or impregnating a shaped structure of the polymer, e.g. spraying a paper made from the polymer early in the paper making process, or by coating another material which is to contact the polymer e.g. a metal body to which a varnish of the polymer is applied.
