Abstract

In a vehicle having a pair of front wheels 3, 4 and a pair of rear wheels 1, 2 each pair being interconnected by a belt or chain and a doubleacting ram and cylinder assembly 6, the two assemblies 6 are interconnected through an hydraulic circuit including a steering control valve 9 and a directional selector valve A, whereby selectively one assembly 6R may be locked with the wheels 1, 2 in their longitudinal positions when the vehicle is steerable by the wheels 3, 4, or both assemblies 6R, 6F may be operated in synchronism to permit steering in a lateral direction by the wheel of each pair on the one side of the vehicle or in oblique directions. The valve A permits actuation of only the ram assembly 6F in the position a as shown when controlled check valves lock the wheels 1, 2 or in the position 6 permits actuation of both ram assemblies 6F, 6R together for oblique travel of the vehicle. Clutches 15, 14 are provided to look the wheels 1, 3 in a lateral direction or to engage the wheels with the respective belt or chain. The clutches are actuated by rams 11R, 11F controlled by a spring-centred solenoid operated second selector valve B. In a modification which cannot be steered laterally the value B and rams 11R, 11F are not provided.
