Abstract

123,832. Hume, A. E. March 9, 1918. Scrapers.-The devices comprise a hollow openwork casing of waved or straight wires, wire netting, or perforated or expanded metal bent to a suitable form through the meshes of which, when the device is in use, the mud &c. passes to the interior. A cylindrical form is shown in Fig. 1, in which the mesh material 5 is held by end rings 1, 2 and longitudinal rods 3, 4. The device may have rounded ends as shown in Fig. 5, and may be curved somewhat axially and have flattened sides. The forms above described may be used in the same manner as a wisp of straw, dandy brush, or curry comb. The device may otherwise take the form of a semi-cylinder, or a basket, Fig. 10. In the latter case, the end portion 17 may be turned back on to the backing 15. The backing may be made as a one-piece flap hinged to one end if desired, or may be made in two pieces hinged at the middle of the device. The surface of the devices may be corrugated, ribbed, or waved, and the form may be cylindrical, square, elliptical or other form as may be most convenient. When using expanded metal the lengths secured between the hands 2 are given a twist so that the metal will present an inclined edge to the surface to be operated on.
