Anthraquinone dyes, free from water-solubilizing groups, of the formula where R represents an aliphatic or cycloalipha. tic radical which may be substituted, R 1 represents a cyclohexyl group which may be substituted, a radical of formula or a radical of formula and X represents an alkylene radical which may be substituted, and wherein R 2 represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical and each of R 3 , R 4 and R 5 represents H or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical and y represents a direct linkage or an alkylene radical which may be substituted, the aromatic ring B may be further substituted and the aromatic ring A may be substituted by halogen, NO 2 , CN, alkyl, alkoxy, amino or CF 3 . They may be obtained by (I) reacting in any order 1 mole of a compound of formula where V and W represent substituents exchangeable for amino groups, 1 mole of the leuco form of a compound of Formula (V) or 1 mole of a mixture of a compound of Formula (V) and its leuco form, with 1 mole of a compound of formula and 1 mole of a compound of formula with subsequent oxidation if the compound of Formula (V) is employed in its leuco form; (2) reacting 1 mole of a compound of formula where U represents a substituent exchangeable for amino groups and Z 1 an acyl radical, with 1 mole of a compound of Formula (VI), after which the acyl group is split off; and (3) reacting 1 mole of a compound of formula with 1 mole of a compound of Formula (VII), after which the acyl group is split off. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They are useful for dyeing, padding or printing of fibres and textile materials made from hydrophobic organic substances.
