Abstract

1,237,905. Transformers; inductors; pulse storage devices. SPERRY RAND CORP. 14 June, 1968 [16 .Tune, 1967], No. 28476/68. Heading H1T. A transformer or inductor includes a core 10, Fig. 1, comprising a number of superposed layers 14a-14d, 16a-16d, of anisotropic magnetic material separated by insulating layers 18, alternate magnetic layers having also a region 20 of high coercivity material, all of which regions are permanently magnetized in the same direction Mp, Fig. 4. The layers of anisotropic magnetic material all have their preferred axis of magnetization parallel to Mp, so that when windings 40, 46 are not energized alternate layers are magnetized in opposite directions. The winding(s) 40 46 are arranged to induce fields perpendicular to Mp, so that when A.C. is applied to a winding the magnetizations M 1 , M 2 of alternate magnetic layers oscillate as described in Specification 1,237,904. The permanently magnetized regions 20 have a high percentage of cobalt. Substrate 12 may be glass or metal. Pulse storage element.-The element includes a core 10 as shown in Fig. 1. The layers of anisotropic magnetic material all have their preferred axis of magnetization 52, Fig. 5, perpendicular to Mp, so that when no signal is being applied to coil 50 the magnetizations M 1 , M 2 of alternate layers are divergent, as shown, owing to the influence of the field of permanently magnetized regions 20. Application of a signal to coil 50 causes the magnetizations M 1 , M 2 to rotate in opposite directions as described in Specification 1,237,904, through approximately 120 degrees, the switching being detected by sense coil 56.
