Abstract
1,237,153. Safety harness. E. W. APRI. 30 Dec., 1968, No. 61759/68. Heading A3V. Motion arresting apparatus for use with a vehicle occupant's restraint, strap 15 comprises a track 27 adapted at 47 for anchoring to the vehicle, a slider 26 movable back and forth along the track, an acceleration sensitive detent 54 pivotally mounted on the slider, and means 58 biasing the detent away from a detent arrestor 44 on the track. The detent 54 is pivoted to the slider at 57, and passes through a slot therein, so that on rapid acceleration of the slider the tip 56 of the detent engages arrestor teeth 45. A screw 63 bears against the lower end of biasing spring 58 to set the level of acceleration required to lock the apparatus. In other embodiments, Figs. 7, 9 (not shown), a pair of detents having a common pivotal mounting on the slider axis and positioned on opposed sides of the axis may be used with a pair of arrestors, with common or separate biasing springs, the arrestor may comprise holes in the back wall, Fig. 7 (not shown), and the apparatus may be used with the track horizontal, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown). The arrestor may comprise a continuous friction surface (167), Fig. 10 (not shown).
