Abstract

1,235,782. Breeding chickens. INSTITUT NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE AGRONOMIQUE. 8 April, 1969 [5 April, 1968], No. 17891/69. Heading A1M. A method of producing normal cooking chickens, more economically than by existing methods, makes use of a sex-linked recessive dwarfism gene. The method comprises the steps of: 1) Crossing females of a cooking breed of poultry with cocks of small size carrying a sex-linked recessive dwarfism gene. 2) Interbreeding the chickens obtained by the first crossing and retaining all the dwarf offspring, so as to establish a basic breed by further interbreeding. 3) Coupling dwarf hens with any breed of normal cocks to produce a chicken of normal size.
