Abstract
1,235,718. Circuit assemblies; filters. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 9 Oct., 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 47860/68. Headings H1R and H1W. [Also in Divisions H3-H5] A converter for tuning in the U.H.F. region (see Division H1) comprises preselector strip lines 11, 24, a link coupling circuit 21, 22, 22a, 23 and oscillator line 46 all formed photographically on an insulating substrate of, e.g. alumina, barium titanate or magnesium titanium oxide, and having a metallic ground plane 3 formed on its underside. Varactor diodes 15, 29, 53 are mounted on conductors 16, 30, 52 respectively, the common control voltage being applied over leads 17, 24, 57 respectively, which are provided with chokes in the form of ferrite beads 18, 33, 56 respectively. Conductors 16, 30, 52 are connected by decoupling capacitors 19, 31, 54 respectively to conductors 20, 32, 55 respectively which are earthed to the ground plane 3, as are the earthy ends of lines 11, 24, 46 by means of stubs 10 passing through the substrate 2. Trimmer capacitors are constituted by metallic coatings 12, 27, 49 superimposed on dielectric members 13, 26, 50 respectively, each capacitor may also comprise as second electrode either the ground plane (Fig. 4b, not shown) or a metallic coating on the top surface of substrate 2, connected by an earthing stub to the ground plane 3 (Fig. 4a, not shown), adjustment being by air abrasion to remove portions of the coatings. A mixer diode 37 is mounted on conductor 38 and connected by lead 36 to conductor 25 which forms a tap on line 24; conductor 39 forms a coupling to oscillator line 46 and is connected for I.F. output to terminal 45 via chokes 40, 44, capacitor 42 providing decoupling to the earthed member 41. Oscillator transistor 58 is mounted by its collector on conductor 48 which is tapped into line 46, its emitter being connected via conductor 59 to decoupling capacitor 63 and bias resistor 60 and its base via conductor 65 to biasing resistors 67, 70. The input to the arrangement comprises a balun formed by strip lines 8, 9 surrounded by ferrite members 4, 5.
