1,235,483. Mounting tools. ROTARY HOES Ltd. 18 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 8102/68. Heading A1B. In an earth-working tool and tool-holder combination for a rotary cultivating machine, the tool-holder includes a flange 10 radially directed with respect to the axis of the rotary shaft 12 of the machine and a part defining a wedging mechanism having wedging surfaces, a part of the tool defining another portion of the wedging mechanism engaging the wedging surfaces of the holder, the wedging mechanism being arranged such that, during operation, the wedging engagement between the, tool and holder tends to increase. The flange 10 may have radial extensions (13), Fig. 1 (not shown), the edges of which are turned over to form a lip 14, a corresponding side wall 17 being welded to the flange to form a dove-tailed channel 15, 16 which locates a root portion 22 of the tool 19. The channel may be formed on the tool and the root on the flange. Alternatively, two flanges 31, 32 may be provided, only the former being secured to the drive shaft 12, the channel formed between the chamfered edge 35 of flange 31 and the lip 36 of flange 32 receiving the root of the tool as before, whilst tongues 37, 38, Fig. 5 (not shown), restrict relative rotation of the flanges. A conventional rotary shaft flange may be converted for using the wedge tools by screwing on channelled adaptor plates.
