Abstract

1,235,326. Change-speed gears. STANDARD-TRIUMPH MOTOR CO. Ltd. 25 June, 1968, No. 30154/68. Heading F2D. A "pick-off" change-speed transfer gear between an engine 10 and main change-speed gear 39 of a motor vehicle comprises an exchangeable " pick-off " idler gear 19 journalled at 22, 23, on a shaft 24 eccentrically journalled by its ends 29, 30 in the gear casing 17, the idler gear 19 meshing between an exchangeable " pick-off " engine driven gear 18 and the main change-speed input gear 38, both on fixed axes, such that for different sized pairs of common diametral pitch "pick-off" gears 18, 19, for varying the input ratio between the engine and gear-box, the idler gear shaft 24 is eccentrically turned in the gear casing 17 for centre distance adjustment, the idler shaft 24 being formed with an end slot 36 and the casing 17 formed with one or more face slots 37, by which the shaft 24 may be relatively locked in two or more positions by a diametral tongue 35 of a cap 33 secured in registering engagement therewith by a screw 34. The various adjustment positions of the idler gear shaft 24 constantly maintain the centre to centre distance of a reverse drive input gear 21, integral with the idler gear 19, and a reverse drive gear (not shown).
