Abstract

1,235,207. Labelling machines. H. KRONSEDER. 12 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 59157/68. Heading B8F. Labels are removed from a stack by a transfer element which is circulated bodily around a hypotrochoidal path. In one preferred embodiment the path is generally triangular, in another it is elliptical. As shown, a transfer element 10 is rotatably mounted in an arm 8 fast with a planet gear 5 mounted in a driving carrier 3 and meshing an idler planet 7 which meshes a stationary sun gear 1. The ratio of the sun 1 to the planet 5 is 3 : 1 and the length of the arm 8 is a quarter of the spacing between the axes 2, 4 of the sun 1 and planet 5, to give a generally triangular path for the transfer element 10. In order to obtain the same position relative to a line through the axis 2 and the axis 9 of the transfer element for suction nozzles on the surface of the element at each corner of the triangular path, a gear 11 may be fast with the carrier 3 and mesh a gear 12 fast with the transfer element, a gear ratio being 4 : 3. Alternatively the gear 11 may be rotatable on the carrier and be fast with an arm of a cam follower engaging an appropriately shaped stationary cam. The transfer element may encounter a gluing band prior to picking up a label. Preferably the labelling cylinder, to which the labels are transferred by the element 10, is adjacent a corner or relatively curved section of the element's path and the label stack is adjacent a relatively straight section of the path.
